2013: Memorable Rose Ball on the Rock
On 23 March 2013, the traditional Rose Ball was held in a special context, that of the Société des Bains de Mer’s 150th anniversary. Renamed the Rose Ball on the Rock for the occasion, this event was as always organised to benefit the Princess Grace Foundation. Under the artistic guidance of Karl Lagerfeld, the Salle des Etoiles was transformed in a “beautiful and pop” venue.
The royal family and its prestigious guests were first greeted by a line of violinists in the hall of the Sporting Monte-Carlo, and were then transported in a decor equally inspired by the Place du Casino de Monte-Carlo in 1900 and the Jardin d’Hiver of the Hôtel Hermitage. The satin-covered tables offered a view of the gaming world as well as dice and tokens in the Rose Ball colours.
In this very ‘classic’ ambience where old-fashioned flowers were placed in golden or silver goblets and the walls were decorated with reproductions of the era’s postcards, a highly contrasting evening hosted by Stéphane Bern was awaiting the privileged guests. It was dreamy and glamorous, with the Prague Concert Philharmonic and a cinematic interlude dedicated to Monaco during the Belle Epoque. Regarding the musical entertainment, there was pop, but also soul and hip-hop with the British singer Rita Ora, Theophilus London in a class all his own, and the DJ and model Caroline de Maigret.
An exceptional programme for an event just as exceptional.
